Welcome to MLEI

June 27, 2013

Mobilising Local Energy Investment in Cambridgeshire is all about enabling renewable energy and energy efficiency projects on a greater scale, bringing multiple benefits for the local economy and local communities. The MLEI project will do this by creating new and innovative financing arrangements that will provide the means for investment in projects.

Cambridgeshire County Council is coordinating the project, working with local authority partners across the County. It has been made possible with approximately £700,000 support from the EU Intelligent Energy Europe programme.

This new project is now moving at quite a pace. Find out the latest on

    Dear all

The update workshop on CRIF and MLEI in late November was very interesting thanks – I would just like to remind everyone that it is really important to talk to planners at the outset of any low carbon energy project rather than leaving it til you find perhaps too late that another version of the original concept would have been more likely to get planning permission

You may also be interested to know that I included CRIF and MLEI as one of two renewable energy case studies in a talk I was invited to give to a group of academics and practitioners on “Low Carbon Urbanisation” in Wuhan, Central China, just before Christmas in my role as Chairman of the International Committee of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI)

I met officials at the British Embassy in Beijing after the Low Carbon Round Table to discuss their role in helping to plan for low carbon urbanisation in a period of rapid population and economic gowth and increasing awareness of the need for sustainable urban development – you can see reports of my visit to China at

Best wishes – Richard Summers BA MRTPI
